Renewal

According to the type of document with which your driver’s license is registered, you have the option to renew it in advance:

  • Panamanian ID card and passport with indefinite or permanent immigration status: You can renew up to one (1) year before the expiration date of the current driver’s license.
  • Passport with defined immigration status: You can renew up to six (6) months before the expiration date of the current driver’s license.
  • The new driver’s license will be valid from the day of issuance for up to four (4) years, as established in the traffic regulations of the Republic of Panama. The validity period is conditional if you have an active arrangement for the payment of fines.
  • The issuance of a new driver’s license cancels the previous document, rendering it invalid for driving.

Renewal

Nationals

  • Original and copy of personal identification card (valid, without damage to the plastic and seal, with readable data and photograph).
  • In case of loss of the ID, you can present the ID request from the Electoral Tribunal with the seal and signature of the official.
  • Present the original driver’s license. (In case of not presenting the driver’s license, you must complete the lost license report form).
  • Perform visual and auditory validation (virtual or in-person according to your processing method) according to the procedure established by the A.T.T.T.

  • Must be in good standing with the A.T.T.T.
  • Individuals with hearing disabilities must present an original medical diagnosis issued by an Otorhinolaryngologist, or they must present an original audiometry test, both of which must have a validity of no more than 6 months. With this information, individuals with hearing disabilities do not need to undergo auditory validation.

NOTE: The disability card from SENADIS will not be accepted, as it is only valid for the economic benefits granted by Law 134 of 2013. The disability card from the Ministry of Health will not be accepted either, as it is only for medical care within the Health system.

Important:

  • Anyone aged 85 or older must take the skill test for the category(ies) on their driver’s license, so the renewal must be done at a branch where a practical validation is performed. The vehicle for practical validation must be in good condition with a valid license plate (sticker and decal).
  • If you are elderly, retired, or pensioned, you can request your in-person procedure without a prior appointment.
  • Anyone aged 70 and older can opt for a driver’s license, which will be valid for two (2) years. Additionally, they must present a certificate of good physical and mental health issued by a specialist in internal medicine or geriatrics; this certificate must have a validity of no more than 6 months. The document must contain the full name, ID number, seal, and fresh signature of the doctor with their specialty. If more than five (5) years have passed without renewal, taking into account the expiration date of the last procedure, you cannot opt for online processing (action protected under article 116). The vehicle for practical validation must be in good condition with a valid license plate (sticker and decal).
  • The renewal process can be initiated one year before the expiration date of your current driver’s license. If you do not have your valid physical license for renewal, you must wait 72 business hours to be able to carry out the requested procedure due to waiting and verification of minor infractions by the A.T.T.T.
  • If you have an active payment arrangement, the validity of the driver’s license will depend on the clause established with the A.T.T.T.
  • The new driver’s license will be valid for 4 years from the date of issuance, as regulated by the traffic laws of our country.
  • Payment must be made at the branch where your procedure ends.
  • You can make your payment in cash, with a credit or debit card at the ATTT cashiers within Sertracen branches. Also, through online banking or ATMs, once the operator indicates the control number of your new procedure if paying by ATM.

If the process is online, your payment must be made using the following methods:

  • Through the platform with VISA / Mastercard credit card. Also at an ATM or online banking. If you choose the Delivery method, the payment must be made with a VISA / Mastercard credit card.
  • Names, surnames, and document number must match or be the same on all documents or requirements presented. If your ID has data modifications, you must provide the original supporting documents issued by the Electoral Tribunal.
  • All documentation provided must be valid, in good condition, without damage, and readable data and photograph must comply with security guidelines. (Applies to all requirements).
  • The issuance of the driver’s license is conditioned on compliance with the regulations of the traffic law and that all requirements are valid at the time of document printing.
  • You must not have accumulated more than fifty (50) points in your driver’s history at the time of requesting the procedure. (Requirement by Law 146 of April 15, 2020, starts to be effective from May 15, 2020).
  • The requirements for renewal procedures are conditioned to the highest category currently on your driver’s license.
  • Once the procedure is initiated, it must be completed at that branch.

For Foreigners:

  • Original and copy of the migration card (valid, undamaged plastic and seal, readable data and photograph). If you have a permanent resident permit (E card), you must present the original and copy of the personal identification card (valid, undamaged plastic and seal, with readable data and photograph).
  • In case of loss of the ID, you can present the ID request from the Electoral Tribunal with the seal and signature of the official.
  • Original and copy of the ordinary passport (valid and undamaged, according to the nationality described in the migration card).

    Vehicle registration (vehicles to be updated)
    Minor infractions (pending ones must be paid, and payment arrangements must be updated to the new document number).
    Weights and dimensions (procedures for vehicles they maintain or that were related to their name must have completed all processes, i.e., the withdrawal of cards and payments.
    Traffic courts (restrictions and police reports must be resolved or updated to the new number).
  • Any foreigner registered under a limited migratory status can only opt for categories A, B, and C.
  • The issuance of the driver’s license is conditioned on compliance with the regulations of the traffic law and that all requirements are valid at the time of document printing.
  • For foreigners with temporary residence, the validity of the driver’s license is determined by the expiration of the migration card or up to four (4) years; whichever comes first.
  • Once the procedure is initiated, it must be completed at that branch.
