  • The validity of the driver’s license for individuals aged 70 and older is two (2) years.
  • One must be in good standing with the Land Transit and Transportation Authority.
  • The driver must not have accumulated 50 points or more in their driving record at the time of applying for the procedure.
  • In case of loss of the ID card, you can submit the ID card application to the Electoral Tribunal with the seal and signature of the official.

* The issuance of the driver’s license is subject to compliance with the traffic regulations and all requirements being valid at the time of document printing.

* The requirements for license extension procedures are subject to the highest category.

Ampliación B, C, D

Nationals

  • Original and copy of personal identity card (valid, undamaged plastic and seal, with legible data and photograph).
  • In case of a lost identity card, you may present the identity card request from the Electoral Tribunal with the official’s stamp and signature.
  • Certificate of theoretical and practical training course from an agent authorized by A.T.T.T. confirming that the applicant is fit to drive the type of vehicle requested. The validity of the initiated process depends on this certificate’s expiration (365 days from the issuance date).
  • Submit the current driver’s license.
  • If the requested extension includes category D (Light trucks up to eight (8) tons and private buses up to sixteen (16) passengers), a negative drug test result for marijuana and cocaine from a laboratory authorized by the Technical Council of Public Health of MINSA must be presented. This result is valid for six (6) months from the document’s issuance date. (Must include the full name of the user, identity card number, with stamp and fresh signature of the laboratory technician). (Requirement under Law 146 of April 15, 2020, effective from May 15, 2020).
  • When expanding to categories B and/or C, and if your driver’s license contains any of these categories: E1, E2, E3, F, G, H, I, J, you must present a drug test result for marijuana and cocaine from a laboratory authorized by the Technical Council of Public Health of MINSA. The document must include your personal information (full name and identity card number, along with the stamp and fresh signature of the laboratory technician).
  • Perform visual, auditory, theoretical, and practical validation at the branch according to the procedure established by A.T.T.T.

  • They must present a medical diagnosis issued by an Otolaryngologist and an audiometry exam valid for no more than six (6) months from the issuance date. The document must include the full name, personal identity number (ID card or passport), fresh stamp, and signature of the issuer.
  • With this documentation, hearing-impaired individuals will not need to undergo auditory validation.
  • Note: SENADIS disability cards will not be accepted, as they are only valid for economic benefits under Law 134 of 2013. Likewise, the Ministry of Health disability card will not be accepted, as it is only for medical services in the public health system.

Important Information:

  • If you do not present your last valid driver’s license, you must wait seventy-two (72) business hours after reporting it as lost at the branch for minor infractions verification by A.T.T.T.

  • The vehicle for the practical validation must be in good condition with a valid license plate (current decal and sticker).
  • Vehicles labeled by A.T.T.T.-authorized driving schools may only be used by users with a valid certificate matching the vehicle(s) category issued by the school.

  • Any vehicle assigned to a specific route must have an out-of-route permit. Only one (1) test per day is allowed per presented permit.

  • Any private vehicle may enter the testing area only once.

  • The issuance of the driver’s license is subject to compliance with traffic regulations and the validity of all requirements at the time of document printing.

  • Once the process has started, it must be completed at the same branch.

Foreigners

  • Original and copy of the migration card (valid, without damage to the plastic and seal, legible data and photograph). If you have permanent resident permission (cedula E), you must present the original and a copy of the personal identity card (valid, without damage to the plastic and seal, with legible data and photograph).
  • Original and copy of the ordinary passport (valid and undamaged, according to the nationality described in the migration card).
  • Present the current physical driver’s license.
  • Certificate of theoretical and practical training course from an authorized agent or the A.T.T.T. certifying that the applicant is qualified to drive the type of vehicle corresponding to the application. The expiration of the initiated process is subject to the validity of this requirement (365 days from the date of issue).
  • If the requested extension contains category D (light trucks up to eight (8) tons and private buses up to sixteen (16) passengers), you must present a negative result from a laboratory authorized by the Public Health Technical Council of MINSA on the consumption of marijuana and cocaine. This result is valid for six (6) months from the date of issue of the document.   • People with a hearing disability certificate from Senadis may present a medical diagnosis issued by an ENT specialist or an audiometry examination with a validity of no more than 6 months (from the date of issue). It must have the full name, personal identity number (card or passport), signature and fresh seal of the person issuing the diagnosis or exam result. With this documentation, the person with a disability certificate will not have to perform the hearing validation.

Important:

  • If the last valid driver’s license is not presented, a wait of seventy-two (72) business hours is required, starting from the reported loss at the branch, for the waiting and verification of minor infractions by the A.T.T.T.
  • If you are elderly, retired, or pensioned, you can request your in-person process without a prior appointment.

  • Payment must be made at the branch where the process concludes.
    • Payment can be made in cash, with credit and debit cards at the ATTT cashiers within Sertracen branches. It can also be done through online banking or ATMs, once the operator provides the control number for ATM payments.
  • Names, surnames, and document numbers must match or be the same on all submitted requirements. In case of any differences in the data, supporting documents will be requested for validation and will be subject to verification.
  • All submitted documentation must be valid, in good condition, without damage, and with legible data and photographs. (Applies to all requirements).
  • Foreigners with a new document number: To process a driver’s license after any change of identity document (passport to passport, passport to cedula, cedula to passport, or cedula to cedula), records must be updated to the new number:
    Vehicle registration (vehicles maintained must be updated).
    Minor infractions (pending fines must be paid, and payment arrangements must be updated to the new document number).
    Weights and dimensions (processes of vehicles maintained or related to their name must have completed all their processes, i.e., withdrawal of cards and payments).
     Traffic courts (restrictions and police reports must be resolved or updated to the new number).
     The certificate of the theoretical and practical training course.
  • The vehicle for practical validation must be in good condition with a valid license plate (sticker and decal valid).
  • Access to vehicles to be used in the practical validation area:
    • Vehicles labeled by driving schools authorized by the A.T.T.T. can only be used by users with a valid certificate with matching category(s) issued by the school.
    • Any vehicle with an assigned route must have an off-route permit. Only one (1) test per day is allowed per presented permit.
    • Any private vehicle can enter once to take the test.
  • Any foreigner registered under a limited immigration status can only opt for categories A, B, and C.
  • The issuance of the driver’s license is conditioned to compliance with the provisions of the traffic regulations and that all requirements are valid at the time of document printing.
  • For foreigners with temporary residence, the validity of the driver’s license is determined by the expiration of the migration card or up to four (4) years; whichever comes first.
  • Once the process is initiated, it must be completed at that branch.
  • There should be no accumulation of more than fifty (50) points in the driver’s history at the time of requesting the process. (Requirement by law 146 of April 15, 2020, effective from May 15, 2020).

Extension E1, E2, E3

Nationals

  • Be Panamanian.
  • Original and copy of a valid personal identity card (must be undamaged, with a legible seal, data, and photograph).
  • In case of a lost ID card, a request for a new card issued by the Electoral Tribunal, with the official’s seal and signature, may be presented.
  • Certificate of completion of theoretical and practical training, issued by an agent authorized by A.T.T.T., certifying that the applicant is qualified to drive the type of vehicle corresponding to the application. The validity of the initiated process is subject to the validity of this certificate (365 days from the date of issuance).
  • Submit the current driver’s license.
  • Have at least two (2) years of experience with an active and valid Type C or D license.
  • Be at least twenty-five (25) years old. [Requirement under Law 146 of April 15, 2020, effective from May 15, 2020]
  • Provide a negative drug test result for marijuana and cocaine, issued by a laboratory authorized by the Technical Council of Public Health of Minsa. (The document must include the user’s full name, identity card number, and the laboratory technician’s fresh seal and signature.) The test result is valid for six (6) months from the date of issuance.
  • Present a certificate of good physical health. (The document must include the user’s full name, identity card number, and the physician’s fresh seal, signature, and specialty.) The certificate is valid for six (6) months from the date of issuance.
  • Present a certificate of good mental health, issued by a psychiatrist authorized to practice. (The document must include the user’s full name, identity card number, and the physician’s fresh seal, signature, and specialty.) The certificate is valid for six (6) months from the date of issuance. [Requirement under Law 146 of April 15, 2020, effective from May 15, 2020]
  • Undergo visual, auditory, theoretical, and practical validation at the branch office, according to the procedure established by A.T.T.T.

• Submit the current driver’s license.
• Have at least two (2) years of experience with a valid and active C or D license.
• Certificate of theoretical and practical training from an authorized agent or the A.T.T.T. certifying the applicant is qualified to drive the corresponding vehicle type. The process expiration depends on the validity of this requirement (365 days from issuance date).
• Present a negative result for marijuana and cocaine use from a laboratory authorized by the Public Health Technical Council of Minsa (must include full name, passport number or permanent resident number (E card) for foreigners, stamp and signature of the laboratory technician). Valid for six (6) months from the issuance date.
• Present a certificate of good physical health (must include full name, passport number or permanent resident number (E card) for foreigners, stamp and signature of the physician with their specialty). Valid for six (6) months from the issuance date.
• Present a certificate of good mental health (must include full name, passport number or permanent resident number (E card) for foreigners, stamp and signature of the physician with their specialty). Valid for six (6) months from the issuance date.
• Perform visual, auditory, theoretical, and practical validation at the branch as per A.T.T.T.’s established procedure.

    Sertracen Branches
  • Sertracen does not rent vehicles.

    • You must be in good standing with the A.T.T.T.
    • People with hearing disabilities must present a medical diagnosis issued by an ENT specialist and an audiometry test, valid for no more than 6 months (from the date of issuance). The document must include full name, ID number (ID or passport), signature and seal of the issuing doctor and test results. With this documentation, the hearing validation is not required. Note: SENADIS disability cards will not be accepted as they are only valid for the economic benefits under Law 134 of 2013. The Ministry of Health disability card will also not be accepted as it is only valid for medical care in the health system.

  • Certificate of completion for a theoretical and practical training course from an agent authorized by the A.T.T.T., certifying that the applicant is qualified to drive the type of vehicle requested. The validity of the initiated process depends on this certificate (365 days from the date of issue).
  • Submit the current driver’s license.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience with a valid and active Type F license.
  • Present a negative drug test result for marijuana and cocaine from a laboratory authorized by the Technical Health Council of the Ministry of Health (Minsa). The document must include the user’s full name, ID number, seal, and fresh signature of the laboratorian. The test result is valid for six (6) months from the date of issue.
  • Complete visual, auditory, theoretical, and practical validation at the branch according to the procedure established by the A.T.T.T.

  • Bring your own vehicle for the practical validation according to the requested category(ies). The vehicle must be in good condition and have a valid license plate (sticker and decal up to date).

Important Information:

  • Individuals aged 70 or older may apply for a driver’s license, which will be valid for two (2) years. Additionally, they must present a certificate of good physical and mental health issued by an internal medicine or geriatric specialist. The certificate must be no older than 6 months and must include the full name, ID number, fresh signature, and stamp of the doctor.
  • If you have an active payment arrangement, the validity of your driver’s license will depend on the terms set by the A.T.T.T.
  • Payment must be made at the branch where the process is completed.
    • You can pay in cash, by credit or debit card at the A.T.T.T. cashiers inside Sertracen branches.
    • Online banking or ATMs are also available once the operator provides the control number for your new transaction.
  • The names, surnames, and ID number must match across all submitted documents. If there is any discrepancy, supporting documents will be required for verification.
  • All submitted documents must be valid, in good condition, and with legible data and photographs.
  • Vehicle requirements for the practical validation test:
    • The vehicle must be in good condition, with a valid license plate (sticker and decal up to date).
    • Vehicles from driving schools authorized by the A.T.T.T. may only be used by applicants who have a valid certificate from the school for the requested category.
    • Vehicles with assigned routes must have a “off-route” permit. Only one (1) test per day is allowed for each permit presented.
    • Private vehicles may be used once for the test.
  • The issuance of a driver’s license is subject to compliance with traffic regulations and the validity of all requirements at the time of printing.
  • Once the process is started, it must be completed at the same branch.
  • Applicants must not have accumulated more than fifty (50) points on their driving record at the time of application. (Requirement per Law 146 of April 15, 2020, effective from May 15, 2020).

Foreigners

  • Original and copy of the migration card (valid, undamaged plastic and seal, legible data and photograph). If you have a permanent resident permit (E card), you must present the original and a copy of the personal identity card (valid, undamaged plastic and seal, legible data and photograph).
  • In case of a lost identity card, you may present the identity card request from the Electoral Tribunal with the seal and signature of the official.
  • Original passport according to the nationality described on the migration card.
  • Submit the current driver’s license.
  • Have at least two (2) years of experience with a valid and active type F license.
  • Certificate of theoretical and practical training course from an authorized agent or the A.T.T.T., certifying that the applicant is fit to drive the type of vehicle corresponding to the request. The validity of the initiated process depends on this requirement (365 days from the date of issuance).
  • Present a negative drug test result for marijuana and cocaine from a laboratory authorized by the Technical Health Council of the Ministry of Health. The test must include:
    • Full name of the user.
    • Passport number or permanent resident number (E card) for foreigners.
    • Fresh seal and signature of the laboratory technician.
    • Validity of six (6) months from the date of issuance.
  • Undergo visual, auditory, theoretical, and practical validation at the branch, according to the procedure established by the A.T.T.T.

  • Bring your vehicle for practical validation according to the requested category(ies); it must be in good condition with a valid license plate (sticker and decal must be up to date). Sertracen Branches

  • Must be in good standing with the A.T.T.T.
  • People with hearing disabilities must present:
    • A medical diagnosis issued by an otolaryngologist.
    • An audiometry test no older than six (6) months from the date of issuance.
    • The document must include the full name, personal identity number (ID or passport), signature, and fresh seal of the issuer.
    • With this documentation, the applicant will be exempt from the auditory validation.
    • Note: SENADIS disability cards and the Ministry of Health disability card will not be accepted, as they are only valid for economic benefits and medical care, respectively.

Important:

  • If you do not present your last valid driver’s license, you must wait seventy-two (72) business hours from the lost report at the branch for verification of minor infractions by the A.T.T.T.
  • If you are a senior citizen, disabled, pensioner, or retiree, you may request your procedure in person without an appointment.

  • Foreigners with a new document number: To process a driver’s license after changing identity documents (passport to passport, passport to ID, ID to passport, or ID to ID), records must be updated to the new number:
    • Vehicle registration (vehicles owned must be updated).
    • Minor infractions (pending fines must be paid, and payment arrangements must be updated to the new document number).
    • Weights and dimensions (vehicle-related procedures must be completed, including card withdrawals and payments).
    • Traffic courts (restrictions and police reports must be resolved or updated to the new document number).
    • Theoretical and practical training course certificate.
  • The vehicle for practical validation must be in good condition with a valid license plate (sticker and decal up to date).
  • Access to vehicles used in the practical validation area:
    • Vehicles labeled by an A.T.T.T.-authorized driving school may only be used by users holding a valid certificate with categories matching the vehicle(s) issued by the school.
    • Any vehicle with an assigned route must have an off-route permit. Only one (1) test per day is allowed per presented permit.
    • Any private vehicle may enter once to take the test.
  • Any foreigner registered under a limited immigration status may only apply for categories A, B, and C.
  • The issuance of the driver’s license is subject to:
    • Compliance with traffic regulations.
    • All requirements being valid at the time of document printing (except for the passport, which must be presented in its original form according to the nationality described on the migration card).
  • For foreigners with temporary residence, the validity of the driver’s license will be determined based on:
    • The expiration of the migration card.
    • A maximum of four (4) years, whichever comes first.
  • Once the process has started, it must be completed at the same branch.
  • The applicant must not have accumulated more than fifty (50) points on their driving record at the time of the application. (Requirement by Law 146 of April 15, 2020, effective from May 15, 2020).

Extension J

Nationals

  • Must be Panamanian.
  • Original and copy of the personal identification card (valid, without deterioration of the plastic and seal, with legible data and photo).
  • In case of loss of the ID, a request for the ID from the Electoral Tribunal with seal and signature of the official may be presented.
  • Submit the current driver’s license.
  • Must have at least two (2) years of experience with a valid and active Type C or D license.
  • Must be at least twenty-five (25) years old. (Requirement by Law 146 of April 15, 2020, effective starting May 15, 2020).
  • Submit a certificate of approval for the specialized course for public passenger transport operators in the mass passenger mobilization system in the metropolitan area of Panama, issued by the company Transporte Masivo de Panamá, S.A.
  • Must have completed the training course conducted by the Benemérito Cuerpo de Bomberos de la República de Panamá on fire prevention and the use of extinguishers. (Requirement by Law 146 of April 15, 2020, effective starting May 15, 2020).
